    The United States Bullion Depository

As everybody knows gold is expensive. So it goes without saying that it must be kept in a really secure place. There is such place in the United States of America which is called the United States Bullion Depository. This is an American gold treasury located at Fort Knox In Kentucky. The bullion is kept in a fortified grey building which is used to store large reserves of gold that officially belongs to the United States of America. A gold reserve is the gold held by a central bank or nation intended as a store of value and as a guarantee to redeem promises to pay depositors, note holders or to secure a currency or it used in international transactions. The building is protected by granite walls and has a blast-proof door that weighs 22 tons. In the pop culture, the bullion depository has become a symbol of an impregnable vault, leading to phrases such as "safer than Fort Knox". Occasionally, there are also other precious items kept in this building. The amounts are absolutely amazing. The United States Bullion Depository holds about 4,603 tons of gold bullion. Frankly speaking, this is the second largest bullion depository in the world after the biggest one - Federal Reserve Bank of New York which is located in Manhattan.
